To finish off our unit on animals we made posters. We were working on comprehension but some of us were also learning about setting out our work and time management.
We have been doing work on animals. Here are the results of some of our thinking.
Goodbye, Buddies!
Today we said goodbye to two buddies. They are heading off to Australia. We will miss them. We hope they will write soon.
What am I?
We read a description in a school journal. It was fun guessing the answer from the clues. We wrote our own clues for animals. Then Ms Finikin found a Little Golden Book called What am I?.
We had heaps of fun reading the clues then guessing. After we finished the book we made up clues for the other pictures.
In our video you can see us first reading our descriptions then having fun with the book.
Funny Fish
We read a book called Funny Fish by Jill Eggleton.
We wrote our own descriptions of funny fish.
We were working on posters after reading a book called Funny Fish. One of our buddies came up with a good way to put prickles on a puffer fish quickly.
After two terms we have come to an end of our unit on castles. Here is our post assessment activity. One of the group has only recently arrived but has still learnt some things about castles.
After several months we looked at our crystal experiment again.
Jessie wrote a story then turned it in to a play for us to perform.
Today was her last day with us as we are sad to see her go.
We were happy to perform with her this one last time.
The Upper ESOL group has been working on their Digi Awards entries.
Hayley was our expert and helped us a lot.
Our entries will be part of the school display next week.
19 August
Last Friday Ms Finikin told us a story about why she no longer does Medieval sword fighting. It’s true what they say – it’s all fun and games until someone (almost) loses an eye.

Last Friday there was an earthquake based in Seddon. It was so big that it was still frightening by the time it reached us. On Monday we made posters about Drop, Cover, Hold and discussed them. On Tuesday we asked to be given some more paper to work on some homework of our own devising.
We thought about the rabbit and how its fur grew. Ms Finikin got some equipment and we learnt how to grow crystals. It was interesting but it took a long time – maybe a month.
