Our Summer Holidays

Here are our recounts of one part of our summer holidays. Over the year we will be working on adding more detail to our stories.

In the holidays I went to see my dog in France. He is so old that he can’t really walk. He doesn’t fight with other dogs. I am so sad that my dog is going to die.

A song for Ms Ouida

Ms Ouida sent us a video of her Grade 6 students performing Tutira mai at a Japanese music festival. We talked about how we could say thank you. We decided on performing a song for her. We voted on which song to sing and what actions we needed. Anh provided most of the costumes for it. We paractised it in our groups then came together for recording. About nine of us are missing. Those of us left behind that day did pretty well.

The new cat

“Once upon a time the renter left a cat who belonged to him because he couldn’t pay the people who owned the house. Ms Finikin, the ESOL teacher, likes cats. The house owner took (a picture of) the cat to Mrs Ryder’s office and said, “This cat is not mine. It is other people’s.” Then he explained everything. At last he said, “Could you find a person to take good care of it?” Ms Finikin said, “I will take this cat after a week (if no-one else wants it)” But Mrs Ryder said, “Come on, Ms Finikin. You’ll love this cat.” His name is (currently) Hunter.

By Jennifer

The cat needs a better name. We read Catch that Kitten by Pamela Duncan Edwards and What Shall We Call the Kitten? by John Carr then looked at a picture of the new cat and thought about what he could be called.

I think you should call your cat…..

Birdly because every cat likes birds – Jennifer
Greedy Cat – Sihui
Ginger because it is the colour of ginger. Oh, if you call your cat Hunter, it will hunt, maybe – Phoenix
Eating. The cat likes watching cat videos – Jenny
Oscar to the police so you can look after him. He will be safe at the police – Alex D
Willyum – Clara
Callie because it is a pretty name – Viema
Strawberry because she is pink – Annie
Poppy. I hope your cat likes that name – Charlotte
Maxamillion. Cool name – Zyrah
Fish – Sam
Brown Poo because it poos too much – PJ
Star because he’s a boy – Alex C
Fluffy because he is fluffy – Varvara
Black poo because he poos too much – Robert
Meow Meow because he meows a lot – Ahn
Berry because he is purple – Lasela and Katelyn
Pop because he pop pop pop pop pop pop pops – Tristan

Crystal experiments

We did some experiments. One was seeing whether a broken magic-growing egg or a full egg would give the faster result when put in water. The rooster and the paracephalosaurus grew at the same rate, surprisingly enough. We also had a few extra growing toys to allow each group to grow something.
Our other experiment was to see whether table or rock salt would grow crystals the fastest. The children had to work cooperatively and follow directions to complete this. The wrote a recount the next day.
Some of the children missed out. They still wanted their stories of missing out to be published.

October Holidays

Here are the stories of our October holidays. Robert and PJ have added their own, extra, topic.

It was my birthday. I played and played. I had a cake. It was yum. My mum made the cake. Good job, Mum! I was going to do a sleep over but my friends had nits but not me so they could give me nit when they sleep and my friends wanted to sleep in the same be ☺

My Family

We have been reading a bunch of Anthony Browne books.
After reading My Mum, we wrote about our mums.

My Mum

I love my mum because she makes me cakes.
I love my mum because she makes me food.
She reads, she hugs me and always kisses me.
She loves me and I love her, too.

After reading My Dad, we wrote about our dads.

My Dad

He is as strong as John Cener and as fast as a cheetah
and tall so when he goes through the door he knocks himself.
I love my dad!
And he loves me!

Two of us wrote about our brothers.

Slime

We made slime. Well, putty, really. It was very messy. The cornflour got all over the table, the floor and the children. Ms Finikin was just pleased she didn’t provide food colouring to go with it.
